cheated death again
well, at least that’s what gingles and i joke about when talking about flying.* i made my first solo cross country flight just a few minutes ago over to livingston and back. it went very well - it was good for the ole confidence that’s for sure. when you’re dealing with maintaining a heading, trying to make sure that heading is correct, looking for landmarks and maintaining your altitude (which was just below scattered clouds) there’s a lot going on… but i found time to thank the Lord for the opportunity and the safety… it was a really neat trip.
i did it ‘old school’… even though i had a gps sitting beside me, i didn’t even turn it on until i was almost half way back - and i only did it then because i was taking an educated guess as to my exact location and wanted to verify that i was in the right spot. i was less than 2nm off.
so now, not only have i flown solo, or flown solo to another airport almost within sight distance… i’ve flow to a point over 50nm away - landed (pretty well i might add) and returned using ded reckoning and pilotage.
this was the first of many, many, many more.
* disclaimer: don’t freak out mom (nana or mrs sloss) - its quite safe and we’ve both had alot of training… we know what we’re doing, we just like the phrase: thus the title of this blurb
