music

i love to play drums and i’m passionate about my band, bixler.

my first memory of drums comes from a room on clearview road in portland tennessee. i was 6. i had a blue fisher-price drum with a yellow lid and wooden spoons. i also had the greatest thing since sliced bread… the ability to whistle and the boss’ born in the u.s.a. album.

one day i came upon the greatest, greatest thing since sliced bread… hitt sticks. luckily, they broke in half and quit working before i drove my family nuts. using my keen sense of… well, something… i set up school notebooks on the floor and used my four inch hitt stick remains to “rock it out” watching bands on SNL. that’s how i learned to play.

lon lewis hooked me up with a real kit when i was 15. that was the icing on the cake.

we (bixler) have been hitting it hard. nearly 40 shows since Oct 07, songs on 4 MTV shows - 1 on Oxygen, SXSW 2007, airplay on 160+ CMJ stations… it’s been fun - whatever happens next.

aside from that, i’ve spent some time with aron wright, amy stroup, the singarama band (directed that for lipscomb university for 4 years), and 5 or 6 other cover bands for random events in college playing everything from metallica to the beatles.

i do studio work as well, but i love playing live. i’ve played well over 100 shows but i lost count of the “real” number of them… it doesn’t matter all that much anyway.
